Premiere of «Rhiza song»

Siril, 16.05.25

One week today since the premiere of my commissioned work at Jazzfest Trondheim.

Had an amazing group of musician to join me on this project. I’ve learned so much from this prosess, and I think I have grown both personally and as a musician and composer from making this.

We got a wonderful review from Nettavisen (T.Hammerø) saying that «Rhiza song should be listened to again - and again.»

Can’t wait for the next chapter with this music.

“Rhiza” means roots. And in this work Siril has dug – both figuratively and literally. She has listened for connections, for life, for what sprouts – even what grows wild. Maybe, she said, you will find not only roots, but also new thoughts if you dig deep enough.

Siril Malmedal Hauge is one of our most expressive and curious voices – always searching for what arises in the space between. Between sound and silence, between man and nature, between what we know – and what we perhaps suspect. - County Cultural Director J. Grønningen at the premiere, Trondheim 09.05.25

Slowly, slowly

"Siril Malmedal Hauge follows up her acclaimed album "Uncharted Territory" with a collection of songs that demonstrate she is an artist of astounding complexity and sophistication, musically adventurous without sacrificing the simple pleasures of traditional song forms, lyrically inquisitive and meditative, and vocals that drift and glide or soar and swoop according to the currents of the music.

Songs explore many themes, not least reconnection with one's place in the world - and which kind of world that is, or should be. Nature, love, tenderness, transcendence, hope, speculation, remembrance, the erotic and the sacred all find their places within the fabric of "Slowly, Slowly".

Musically, the album runs the gamut from raucous funky blues to tender minimal jazz arrangements that drip with atmosphere, from whimsical staccato percussive clap-alongs to dark ballads. The textures come from everything from hip-hop to cool jazz to country music and folk, all blended to perfection.

We already knew that Siril Malmedal Hauge was an exceptional talent, but with "Slowly, Slowly" she has not only consolidated that, but made it bulletproof." - Jazzland
